  1. Distances may be given in various ways.  The input and output units may
  2. differ, so you can easily translate from one system to another.
  3.  
  4. The options are:  <EXAMPLES.'> and are set in <PARAMTRS>.
  5.  
  6. Feet.    USA feet are defined as 1200/3937 Paris metres.
  7.  
  8. Metres.  Paris metres.
  9.  
  10. Poles, perches, or rods.  16.5 USA feet.
  11.  
  12. Ropes.   20 USA feet.
  13.  
  14. Gunter's chains.  66 USA feet.  100 links of 0.66 USA feet.  Note that there is
  15.     also a Ramden's chain which is 100 USA feet, for sesquipedalian surveyors.
  16.  
  17. Vara.    New Mexico vara of 2.742 USA feet.
  18.          La vara of Texas is closer to 2.78 USA feet.
  19.      La vara of Missouri is 2 3/4 USA feet.
  20.          You may set any value with User Defined.
  21.  
  22. Yards.   3 USA feet.
  23.  
  24. User defined.  i.e. pace of 2.64 feet (1000 double paces per mile), fathom = 6'
  25.  
  26. Fractional parts may be given as decimals in the manner of any other real
  27. number.  Or feet/inches; yards/inches; poles/links; chains/links.

  29. You can change distance units on the fly in <SHOOT_EM> by entering the initial
  30. letter of the unit as the distance.
